Supporting the Next Generation of Therapists: Clinical Supervision with Dr. Elizabeth Miller

Becoming a licensed therapist in Texas is a journey of dedication, growth, and mentorship. At Well Mind Body, we’re proud to support emerging clinicians every step of the way. Elizabeth Miller, Ph.D., LPC-S, LMFT-S, offers clinical supervision for both students and post-graduate associates pursuing licensure in counseling and marriage and family therapy throughout Texas.

What is Clinical Supervision?

Clinical supervision is a foundational part of becoming a licensed mental health professional. In Texas, both Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) candidates must complete two distinct phases of supervised experience:

  1. Practicum/Internship (Graduate Level)
During their master’s programs, students complete practicum hours under the supervision of an approved clinical supervisor. These hours provide hands-on experience with clients in a supportive, educational environment.

  2. Post-Graduate Supervision (Associate Level-Post Graduate)
After graduation, LPC-Associates and LMFT-Associates must complete thousands of supervised clinical hours over a period of at least 18 months- five years. Supervision during this time helps deepen clinical skills, ethical understanding, and professional identity.

This layered model of education ensures that by the time a therapist is fully licensed, they are equipped with the tools, insight, and clinical judgment needed to serve clients effectively and ethically.

Supervision with Dr. Elizabeth Miller

Dr. Miller is an experienced Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor (LPC-S) and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist-Supervisor (LMFT-S). She serves as a clinical supervisor for graduate students through the University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL) and also provides private supervision for LPC-Associates and LMFT-Associates across the state of Texas.

With a warm, collaborative, and integrative approach to training, Dr. Miller supports each supervisee in developing their own voice, theoretical orientation, and clinical confidence. Supervision includes case consultation, ethical decision-making, and professional development, all in a space that encourages curiosity, reflection, and growth.

An Integrative Approach to Supervision

Dr. Miller draws from a wide range of evidence-based modalities, including:

  • Family systems theory

  • Attachment-based models

  • Trauma-informed care

  • Integrative mental health approaches

  • Somatic and experiential practices

Supervision is not one-size-fits-all. Dr. Miller believes in tailoring guidance to meet the supervisee’s learning style, population focus, and long-term career goals—whether that’s private practice, agency work, or specialization in a niche area of mental health.
