Have your children left home and you’re wondering what this next chapter of life might look like?

Many people reach a point where the roles that once defined them begin to shift. Parenting changes, relationships evolve, and suddenly there is space to ask new questions about identity, purpose, and what comes next.

I’m Alberta Totz, JD, LPC, a licensed professional counselor in Houston, wife, and mother of three. Before becoming a therapist, I practiced law, an experience that gave me deep insight into how people think under pressure, how relationships function during stress, and how important it is to feel truly heard.

I work with adults, parents, and professionals who may appear “put together” on the outside but feel overwhelmed, anxious, or disconnected beneath the surface. I understand the complexity of balancing ambition, family, and identity, and how easy it is to lose your sense of balance along the way.

My therapeutic approach integrates psychoanalytic insight, relational therapy, and mind-body awareness to help clients gain clarity, strengthen relationships, and move through life transitions with greater confidence.

Whether you are navigating anxiety, burnout, divorce recovery, relationship challenges, or stepping into your “second act” after raising children, therapy can provide the space to reconnect with yourself and create meaningful change.

Who I Work With

I work with adults, couples, and families navigating emotional and relational challenges, including:

  • Adults experiencing anxiety, depression, or overwhelm

  • Women entering their second act of life and rediscovering identity after raising children

  • Couples seeking stronger communication and emotional connection

  • Families navigating relational stress or changing dynamics

  • Parents adjusting to empty nesting and evolving family roles

  • Young adults navigating independence and identity development

For couples therapy, I use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), a research-based approach that helps partners move out of cycles of conflict and disconnection and into relationships marked by emotional safety, responsiveness, and deeper connection.
