In the Community: Helping Kids Manage Anxiety, A Parent Roundtable at West University Elementary

On October 27th, Dr. Elizabeth Miller, PhD, LPC-S, LMFT-S, founder of Well Mind Body Integrative Psychotherapy & Wellness, was honored to lead a Parent Roundtable on Childhood Anxiety and Emotional Wellness at West University Elementary School. This event was part of the school’s ongoing West U Wellness initiative, a partnership between the PTO and campus staff to promote emotional, social, and physical health throughout the year.

Creating Space for Connection and Understanding

During the roundtable, Dr. Miller shared practical, research-based strategies for helping children navigate anxiety, stress, and emotional overwhelm in today’s fast-paced world. Parents explored the concept of the “window of tolerance”, a framework that helps families understand when a child’s nervous system feels safe and regulated versus when it’s in fight-or-flight or shutdown.

Through relatable examples and open discussion, participants learned how to identify signs of dysregulation and support children in calming their minds and bodies. Parents also gained insight into how small daily rituals, such as mindful movement, consistent routines, and emotional check-ins, can build resilience and strengthen family connection.

Linking Home and School Wellness

The conversation also tied into November’s West U Wellness theme: Physical Wellness, emphasizing how movement supports mental health.

A Shared Commitment to Community Health

This roundtable reflects Well Mind Body’s ongoing commitment to community partnership and education. As part of the West U Wellness Committee, Dr. Miller and the Well Mind Body team collaborate with local educators and parents to provide resources, school programs, and evidence-based information on topics such as emotional regulation, nutrition, and family wellness.

By engaging directly with the community, Well Mind Body continues to extend its mission beyond the therapy room, empowering families to build resilience, understanding, and emotional health from the ground up.
